New Pattern Release - the Springe Jumpsuit Pdf Sewing Pattern

The Springe Jumpsuit and Playsuit Sewing Pattern

I’m so excited (and nervous!!) to release my first pdf sewing pattern, the Springe Jumpsuit! The jumpuit sewing pattern was inspired by the bodice of a tea dress that I really loved and wanted to recreate, and I thought it would look fantastic as a jumpsuit.

I have made all my versions of the Springe Jumpsuit in ethically sourced fabrics and also have some fit tutorials in case you need to adjust the pattern to get the fit right.

The Details

  • The jumpsuit sewing pattern comes in eight sizes (UK 6-20) and with three different verions to choose from, including a very cute playsuit option.

  • The bodice of the jumpsuit is fitted at the waist, with a beautiful curved waistband. It has a v-neck neckline and cap sleeves.

  • The jumpsuit has wide-legged trousers that can be worn at three different lengths - full length, cropped at the ankle or shorts. All three versions have deep comfy pockets.

The Opening

The big question with a jumpsuit is how to get in and out of it because it needs to be as easy as possible! I have added the opening at the centre back of the jumpsuit sewing pattern. It has a zip that goes up to just above the bra line and then a small button at the back of the neck. You can use either an invisible or regular zip and it’s easy to reach around to the top of the zip and to access the button.

Fabrics

The jumpsuit sewing pattern is designed for medium weight, woven, non-stretch fabrics. The wide-legged trousers of the jumpsuit look great with fabrics that have a drapey feel such as visose, but it is also lovely in a more structured linen or cotton.

Recommended fabrics:

  • Viscose

  • Tencel

  • Bamboo silk

  • Linen

  • Cotton

  • Crepe

  • Rayon

  • Cupro

All the fabrics I’ve used for my jumpsuits are made from ethically sourced fabrics. You can find a list of international Ethical Fabric Suppliers on my website here.

I’ve made the cropped version of the Springe Jumpsuit sewing pattern in bamboo silk from Raystitch. This was my first time sewing with bamboo silk and I love it. It has a similar structure to cotton, but is very soft and the jumpsuit trousers look stunning when you move.

This jumpsuit has two different fabrics. The bodice is made from viscose crepe and the trousers from viscose dobby which has tiny spots. Both fabrics are from Atelier Brunette. It has a slight shimmer and gives a beautiful flowy feel to the trousers.

This version of the playsuit sewing pattern is made from some eco-friendly double gauze from Atelier Brunette which is a lovely embroidered with gold dots, that is great for hot weather.

I’ve used Crispy Crepe from Meet Milk for this full length version of the Springe Jumpsuit sewing pattern. The fabric is made from sustainable tencel and is very easy to sew with. I love it because it has a sturdy structrure but also a drapey feel that gives great movement to the wide-leg trousers of the jumpsuit.

What you will need

  • Fabric

  • Co-ordinating thread

  • 40-50cm invisible zip

  • Iron-on interfacing approx 0.5m

  • 1 small button (1-1.5cm diameter)

  • 1 button loop (make out of a small piece of narrow elastic or fabric scraps)

Sizing

The Springe Jumpsuit sewing pattern comes in eight sizes, which correspond to a UK size 6-20. It’s designed for a sewing cup B which means that you would have approximately 5cm or 2 inches difference between your high bust and your bust. I have some fitting tutorials which will help to explain this a bit more. It has been made for a someone with a height of about 165cm or 5ft5 and there is a shorten/lengthen line on the trousers so that they are easy to adjust. I have also written some fit tutorials including a full bust amendment tutorial and a small bust amendment tutorial.

The Instructions

The jumpsuit comes as a PDF Sewing Pattern digital download, that can be printed either on your home computer (A4 or US letter size) or at a copyshop (A0), and includes an illustrated instruction guide. See more information about using digital patterns here.

The jumpsuit sewing pattern Comes with an illustrated, step-by-step instruction guide to help you construct it. I’ve marked it as an intermediate sewing level as it has a few parts that I think would be tricky for a beginner.

My pattern testers have made some gorgeous Springe Jumpsuits and Playsuits and you can also see what people have been making on my instagram page.

I have now also made a sleeve extension for the jumpsuit sewing pattern which gives two new sleeve options, as well as a dress version of the jumpsuit - the Springe Dress sewing pattern. Check them out in my shop!

Happy Sewing!

Johanna
